Washington D.C. Travel Photos

There is just so much to see in Washington D.C.! You could easily stay an entire week there and not see every single thing there is to see. We definitely tried to fit in as much as we possibly could in just a couple of days. I already shared some of my photos from a few of our favorite sites.. But, today I’m going to share images from one of my favorite museums, the National Portrait Gallery and Museum of American Art, plus, some images from the Museum of Natural History. I am a big fan of painted portraiture. That’s probably not a big surprise, considering I am a photographer who specializes in portraiture as well. The mid 18th to mid 19th century is some of my favorite time for painted portraiture. Plus, they also have some early photography, which is always really inspiring to see. Now, I’ll admit that I took a lot of photos of paintings.. but, I’m going to spare you guys a bunch of same looking, straight on photos of paintings. Those are really for me to geek out over in my personal time. But, I will share a few of my favorites, and some of the beautiful architecture and stained glass at the museum. If you have a chance to head up to Washington D.C., I highly suggest you prioritize the National Portrait Gallery!

After some absolutely glorious time at the Portrait Gallery, we walked across an evening lit D.C. and had some dinner and hit our hotel room for the night. D.C. is such a lovely city to walk around in! The next morning, we were up early and at it to hit one more museum, before we had to head to our next location. We chose the Natural History Museum to finish out our time in Washington D.C. We were not disappointed. There was just so, so much to see at the Natural History Museum! Everything from sea life to the Hope diamond. After that, we went to the National Archives, but, they sadly don’t allow any photography inside the building at all! But, it is definitely worth a visit to see their beautiful building and the amazing historical documents, like the Declaration of Independence.
